About Us

This is a special interest site created by Abstract Worlds Ltd, a UK-based interactive software development company formed in 1998.

There are 5 main reasons we set up this site:

1. We used to develop Java games for mobile phones, and as such we think our experience in the mobile phone market gives us a unique view of the smartbook market

2. We also develop websites, and we feel that it is important for us to keep these new smartbook devices on our radar (e.g. web design widths), as sooner or later some of our website client's or our client's website's clients will be browsing these websites using smartbooks

3. We feel that the prospect of a totally new breed of laptop, predominantly driven by technology provided by a UK-based company, ARM Holdings ARM processor, makes for a very interesting computer marketplace where the UK is seen as a major player, something that never happened with the PC or laptop market.

4. As someone who has commuted to London for years, and who also likes the idea of a small web browsing device for the living room, smartbooks do interest me (Paul Ireland, Director of Abstract Worlds).

5. As software developers, we realise that smartbooks, due to the compromises in their design, may be missing things, and as such we will be looking at ways we can provide things to fill those gaps.
