Smartbook Misconceptions

They look like small laptops but they are not laptops. A Smartbook is not a CD/DVD player. Since netbooks are already smaller versions of laptops, and since netbooks do not have internal CD/DVD drives because of their small size, you also will not find CD/DVD drives in smartbooks.

A smartbook does not usually have an IBM (Intel 386) compatible architecture. Therefore it wont support software developed for IBM (Intel 386) compatible family of architectures, including operating systems. There is no common architecture family for smartbooks, some may be based on an ARM processor architecture, some may be based on a MIPS processor architecture, some may be based on other processor architectures.

As such there are already some popular misconceptions out there. Some smartbook owners have asked, or have been recommended on forums, whether they can swap and change their operating system for Windows XP, Windows 7 or Linux, but this is not generally the case because Windows and most of the common Linux builds are for IBM (386) compatible architectures. You wouldn't expect to be able to put Windows 7 on your mobile phone, and likewise you shouldn't expect this of your Smartbook.
